The structure of the atom

At the end of this activity, students should be able to:
– say what information can be obtained from the atomic number
– determine the number of protons and the total number of electrons in an atom on the basis of the atomic number
– determine the composition of atomic nuclei, given the atomic number and the mass number
– explain the term isotope
– discuss the similarities and differences between hydrogen isotopes
– calculate the percentage abundance of a given isotope.
